Food O'Clock: Ra-Men Bankara

It is Food O'Clock again and today we are going to be eating at Ra-Men Bankara, a small ramen shop near Mc Donalds at Mid Valley Megamall.

Appearance

Invoking a modern take on the traditional japanese restaurant style, Ra-Men Bankara gives customers an authentic experience while allowing leeway to modern design.

Outside of the store is the staple banner that most ramen stores use. I feel that this is a plus point for the design since it gives people a sense of the restaurants roots.

Menu

This restaurant goes for a more simplistic approach to the menu cover. A stock black background with japanese words, enticing a certain sense of anticipation and mystery.

The food items are illustrated with plenty of great photos of the food and despite the pictures looking really good, they were somewhat realistic.

Customer Service

The staff (Sorry, no pictures here even though they were cute) were extremely attentive. I accidentally dropped my garlic crushing tool onto the ground . They quickly rushed over with a replacement tool. They were also quick to recommend me the restaurant's signature dish. That was nice (It wasn't the absolute priciest dish on the menu) .

The Food

Speaking of signature dishes, I ordered the Kakuni Bankara, which is a shoyu-based ramen with pork belly and Chashu. This is their best selling dish and is the same thing as their self-proclaimed signature dish, just with the addition of pork belly.

It was amazing. The shoyu broth , infused with the porky flavour, gave it a distinct taste, invigorating you with its warmth and piquancy. The aroma would make you drool just as you inhale and with each slurp, you will be begging for more. The pork belly and chashu were only complemented by the broth as its essence had both absorbed the flavour of the shoyu while contributing its own unique scent. The noodles were of the right texture as it absorbed the soup quite well, making each bite a little bit orgasmic.

Next was the Gyoza. I got a little excited and snapped one up before I could even get a picture taken. A flaw of the Gyoza I had in other establishments was that they would be too burnt, leading to a starchy skin and overcooked filling. This place has it en pointe, perfecto, charring only a certain portion while not overcooking the skin. I dipped it in some soya sauce and chili oil and it was heavenly.

TL;DR

It is a great restaurant with ramen that is practically unrivaled in Mid Valley (Unless someone wants to convince me otherwise). The only thing that I would have to say I am not really fond of would be the price but even then the portions are filling enough for me to say that the value is still there. If you want to try out a new ramen place, this place would be on to check out.

Thanks for the kind words! Glad you enjoyed the review.
